Although the updated 2012 Nissan GT-R officially debuted at the L.A. auto show, Nissan—no doubt pandering to the impatient press—released the first photos and most of the info on the car a few weeks ago, making us wait until L.A. to learn a few last details such as the car's official power output and pricing.

Thanks to numerous tweaks to the engine (detailed here), the twin-turbo 3.8-liter V-6's output climbs 45 hp—to a total of 530—and torque grinds upwards 54 lb-ft to 488. Those higher numbers, along with changes to the launch-control program, ought to help the Japanese beast drag its acceleration figures back down—you may recall that for the 2010 model year the GT-R's launch control was reprogrammed for softer clutch engagement, as the violence of repeated 3.2-second 0-to-60-mph blasts was found to be unhealthy for the $20,000 transmission. We recorded a best 0-to-60 time of 3.2 seconds prior to the new program, and 3.8 after; the changes should drop that time back into the mid-3-second range, rather than this lackadaisical high-3 business.

The other GT-R news for 2012 is the new Black Edition trim level, which is available in all GT-R colors, including black. Black Edition cars get black six-spoke Rays wheels in place of the standard 10-spokes (both designs are lighter than the Rays wheels on previous GT-Rs), custom Recaro seats with red accents, a dark headliner, and exclusive red and black trim. Pricing for the Black Edition starts at $96,100, the Premium model commands $90,950, and all will be in showrooms in early 2011.
